Slovak translation services

On-time delivery guaranteed, with no surcharges ever

An eye for detail

Due to the continuously expanding economic, political and cultural relations, there is an increasing need for Slovak translations. Although Slovak was consciously approximated to Czech during the existence of Czechoslovakia and the two languages are very close to each other even today, due to the separate development of the Czech Republic and Slovakia and the media and literary language of the countries, the differences are becoming increasingly important. With the help of our native translators, we are up to speed on the slight nuances and constant changes. In order to avoid making mistakes, even when we translate the most complex texts, three experts work on each project: a translator, an editor and a proofreader. All of them work as a full-time translator with at least 5 years’ experience in translation, are native speakers of Slovak and hold a degree in translation.

Translating specialist documents from Slovak or to Slovak

We mainly offer translations from English, German, French, Spanish and Hungarian into Slovak, while we naturally translate out of Slovak too. We undertake the translation of countless types of documents, including clinical trial documentation, technical manuals and licence agreements.

We guarantee the very highest quality for all translations we undertake. We expect the translators at Albion Languages to be almost as experienced in the topic of the translation as the author of the document. In the case of technical, scientific and medical translations, for example, the author and the target audience often have a degree in medicine or a PhD – just like our translators.

Slovak is the Esperanto of the Slavic languages!

The Slovak language is an Indo-European language that belongs to the Western Slavic languages and is spoken by nearly 6 million people as a mother tongue. Linguists consider the Slovak language to be the Esperanto of the Slavic language group as Slovak speakers understand speakers of other Slavic languages well and vice versa. Due to their common history, the Hungarian and Slovak languages adopted many words from each other, therefore speakers of both languages understand, for example, the following words: pohár (glass), korbács (scourge), sárkány (dragon), etc.

Did you know?

The name “Slovak” derives from “Slavic,” the two words have the same meaning. The expression “tót” used by Hungarians for Slovak people and other Slavic people living in Hungary was probably derived from the Lithuanian word, “tauta,” which means “people.”

For foreigners, the Slovak language may appear to be difficult as it has many consonant clusters, e.g. in “zmrzlina” (ice cream) or the well-known tongue twister: “strč prst skrz krk” (stick your finger down your throat).

Similarly to Hungarian, the Slovak language allows the creation of long words by compounding. The longest word is “najneobhospodarovateľnejší” (which means the least cultivable land). As numbers are written without dashes and spaces, they can be even longer in writing.

Slovak is closely related to Czech. Speakers of the two languages understand each other, although Slovak speakers may make mistakes in their everyday speaking when using Czech words and grammatical forms.
