Where we came in

For international companies active worldwide, having a highly user-friendly, informative and multilingual website is a must. With its highly specialised technology, Leica Geosystems needed a localisation partner for its international website with very skilled and trusted resources and extensive experience in highly technical topics. Based on its proven track record in niche technical translation and expertise in website localisation, the decision was finally made to entrust the project to Albion Languages.

The challenge

Translating the websites of technology providers always represents a complex challenge. A fine balance needs to be achieved between correct handling of the technical language and using a marketing style that appeals to potential clients. At the same time, the webpages also have to be optimised for a range of search engines to ensure that the website can easily be found with the most probable searches. The additional challenges in Leica Geosystems’ project included a tight timeline and rapid adoption of the client’s internal content management processes.

The solution

After analysing the project scope and requirements, we established our client-specific customised approach to the project for scheduling, communication with the client, necessary project tools, etc. We then assembled our team of expert translators, editors and a dedicated project manager.

Initial training was then provided to the linguists in the cloud-based translation software used by the client. The project was divided into 7 batches to facilitate a continuous flow of completed documents. A glossary of key terms was also created to achieve consistency in client- and sector-specific terminology. Use of the translation tool enabled the translators to work in parallel and the editor to be able to process the texts without delay. Our work was also greatly supported by close cooperation with the internal reviser at Leica Geosystems who provided useful feedback throughout the project.

The result

By adopting this customised, proactive approach, we could deliver the webpage batches precisely to the tight schedule, helping Leica Geosystems to roll out its new multilingual website on time. The required top quality was achieved through a combination of tried and tested workflows and practices and optimised communication with our very supportive client.
