Meet our new project manager: Veronika Fraňová

Albion Languages welcomes Veronika Fraňová to our Bratislava team. In this post, we ask about her background, her love of languages, and what she is looking forward to as a project manager at Albion Languages.

Tell us a bit about yourself!

I received my MA in Translation and Interpretation (German and English) at Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra. During my studies, I realised that interpreting was not my cup of tea. Instead, I fell in love with literary and audiovisual translation. I also spent one incredible semester in Passau, Bavaria. It was the birthplace of my wanderlust that has since taken me to many amazing places. ????

What languages do you speak, and why do you enjoy learning languages?

Slovak is my mother tongue, and I can understand our Czech ‘brothers’, as we call them. I can also speak English and German, and I’m currently learning Spanish as well.

Learning a foreign language is like reading a never-ending story; it’s a gateway to new worlds.

What inspired you to pursue a career in the translation industry?

For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been a bookworm. After I read the first Harry Potter book (a long time ago!) I knew that one day I’d like to see my name on the very first page of my favourite book. I still hope that dreams can come true!

What do you hope to gain from working at Albion Languages?

I’d like to gain experience in management, build my business communication skills, and continue to work with languages. Last but certainly not least, I’m looking forward to working in a great team!

In your opinion, what skills are needed to be a good project manager?

I think a project manager should be skilled in time management, use common sense, and of course, have a passion for languages.

Now for some fun questions! Can you tell us a surprising, random fact about you?

I learned Slovak sign language and I occasionally make subtitles of Slovak movies for the deaf and hard-of-hearing community.

What do you like doing outside of work?

I like reading, watching movies, doing crosswords, swimming, and travelling.
